Guide to eSIM Top-Up Packages
Top-up packages allow you to continue using your eSIM after your initial data is exhausted or your plan has expired. Please note that while most of our partners offer this, it is not available for every operator.
The Basics: How Top-Ups Work
Automatic Sync: When you purchase a top-up, it is automatically assigned to your existing eSIM.
No Setup Required: There is no need to scan a new QR code or go through any activation steps.
Independent Validity: A top-up does not "extend" the original package's duration. Instead, it adds a new package with its own specific data allowance and validity period.
Which Data Package Gets Used First?
If you have multiple active bundles on a single eSIM, the order of consumption depends on the network operator.
1. 3HK (3 Hong Kong)
3HK allows multiple bundles on one eSIM. The system automatically prioritizes your data using these two rules:
Rule 1 (Coverage): The bundle that covers fewer countries is used first.
Rule 2 (Expiry): The bundle that expires sooner is used first.
Example: If you have a yearly plan active but purchase a 30-day top-up, the 30-day top-up will be consumed first.
2. Sparks
Sparks follows a similar logic to 3HK with an added "tie-breaker" rule:
Rule 1: The bundle covering fewer countries is used first.
Rule 2: The bundle that expires first is used first.
Rule 3: If coverage and expiry are identical, the first package activated is consumed first.
3. eSIMGo and Others
For most other operators, the system follows a "First In, First Out" logic:
Priority: The package purchased first is used first.
Activation: The top-up package remains "queued" and its validity will not begin as long as there is an active, functioning package available for your current destination.
